Pourquoi le TOEFL améliore le test mondial d’anglais
Depuis plus de six décennies, le TOEFL établit la norme pour mesurer l’anglais académique à l’échelle mondiale. Ces dernières années, des recherches intensives menées à la fois par des universités et des étudiants ont révélé des domaines où le test pouvait s’améliorer.
Les étudiants d’aujourd’hui veulent passer les examens partout, avec peu de charges administratives. Ils attendent aussi une expérience de test moderne. Et ils ne veulent pas attendre une semaine et demie pour voir leurs résultats.
Pendant ce temps, les universités s’attendent à ce que les tests soient sûrs, fiables et accessibles. Ils veulent également s’assurer que les nouveaux étudiants puissent communiquer avec leurs pairs, en plus de lire des manuels et d’écouter des cours.
Pour équilibrer les besoins des étudiants et des institutions, nous introduisons des mises à jour du TOEFL qui rendent le test plus équitable et plus convivial pour les étudiants, sans compromettre la qualité ou la rigueur.
Dans cette vidéo, Omar Chihane, directeur général du TOEFL, donne un aperçu des récentes améliorations du TOEFL iBT, le test mondial d’anglais.
À partir de janvier prochain, le TOEFL iBT a modernisé sa conception, son contenu et son échelle de scores, tout en conservant la rigueur académique et la recherche fondée sur des preuves auxquelles les institutions mondiales ont confiance depuis 1964.
Ces mises à jour incluent l’introduction d’une échelle de score de 1 à 6, par incréments de demi-point, avec un alignement plus intuitif avec le Cadre européen commun de référence pour les langues, qui sert désormais de norme mondiale pour la maîtrise de l’anglais.
Le TOEFL renvoie également les résultats aux élèves dans les trois jours, s’adaptant à la compétence de chaque élève dans les sections de lecture et écoute, et testant les compétences académiques modernes, notamment en communiquant avec les pairs en classe.
